Resumen de Patronage, Romanesque architecture and the Languedoc

Eric Fernie

  • The March of Gothia is not widely referred to in the literature on the architectural history of France in the 11th century. The paper offers an assessment of its relevance to the First Romanesque architecture of what is now known as lower Languedoc. It examines the political history of the area from the Romans to the 11th century, the route by which the style was introduced (via Provence or via Catalonia), and the relationships of the buildings to others, especially those of Catalonia.
