Este pequeño trabajo constituye un simple bosquejo de los medios con que cuenta el Derecho norteamericano para garantizar el cumplimiento de la legislación ambiental, destacando aquellos que resultan más llamativos a los ojos de un jurista español: la disciplina o enforcement de iniciativa pública pero articulada a través de acciones civiles (judicial actions), las denominadas sanciones “civiles”, sean impuestas en vía administrativa o judicial (civil sanctions), las acciones ciudadanas (citizen suits) y los fabulosos remedios o pretensiones basadas en el Common Law (Common Law remedies).

This small work constitutes a simple outline of the means available to US Law to guarantee compliance with environmental legislation, highlighting those that are most striking in the eyes of a Spanish jurist: the enforcement of public initiative but articulated through of civil actions (judicial actions), the so-called “civil” sanctions, whether imposed administratively or judicially (civil sanctions), citizen actions (citizen suits) and the fabulous claims based on the Common Law (Common Law remedies).
