Resumen de Punto de vista: La conceptualización y el aspecto
One of the most puzzling issues for researchers on Spanish aspect is the disparity in the behavior of the imperfect in literary and non-literary contexts. The need to find an explanation to this matter has generally resulted in the adoption of a two step characterization. First, an analysis is provided for the characterization of the basic uses. Secondly, the formal apparatus of the analysis is extended or additional notions are provided to handle the problematic uses. In this paper, I argue for a unified characterization of the aspectual categories which bridges the gap between the literary and nonliterary uses and which simultaneously captures some of the intuitions behind previous analyses. This analysis relies on the role of grammar as the symbolization of conceptualization and portrays the two aspectual variants as viewpoint providers.
