    • The gut microbiota composition could play a key role in many human functions. This chapter focused on the interaction between gut microbiota and exercise-induced stress. It is known how moderate and regular exercise can improve gut microbiota composition. Nevertheless, intense and prolonged exercise contributes to promoting som undesiderable effects, leading to exercise-induced stres. This stress could directly promote changes in gut microbiota composition and functions, impairing the recovery process. A modification of the diet could palliate these adverse effects. Finally, this chapter provides some practical applications for sports nutritionist practitioners that maximize the achievement of a proper gut structure and microbiota composition to minimize exercise-induced stress.
