  • Resumen
    • On the urban and architectural complex of Mariana municipality it is observed the degradation of the architectural heritage elaborated in the XVIII and XIX centuries. It is aggravated when it focuses on the vernacular architecture, which is a target of abandonment and mischaracterization, even when the buildings are still able to fulfill the functions for which they were studied and built. This paper intends to increase the knowledge about Brazilian colonial vernacular architecture. It identifies as building pathologies of wattle, daub, adobe and rammed earth in this architectural complex. The field research began in 2014 and 2015 in Mariana municipality. The streets of this municipality were covered on foot, which the photographic record was performed with a digital single-lens reflex camera. The interaction with the local dwellers showed essential to the field, because they indicated the building sites. The following can be classified as causes of buildingpathologies: physical, biological, natural and human factors. These factors are documented into the literature about building heritage in other regions of Brazil. Further researches should be deepened about human factors, because the inhabitants of this municipality are themselves agents of building heritage degradation, by the vandalism or by replacement of elements in the building systems by materials and strange techniques to traditional.
