    El gobierno de los territorios de la monarquía hispánica requirió de la experiencia de agentes políticos en la representación y ejercicio del poder regio; también fue necesario reconocer los poderes locales que participaban de gobernar en nombre del rey. En algunas materias lograr un equilibrio entre las corporaciones americanas y los actores políticos externos fue prioritario para la estabilidad de los territorios. El artículo analiza el papel del gobierno virreinal peruano en materia de guerra y defensa en el contexto de los conflictos entre monarquías, interesa la posición de tres virreyes sus estrategias y discursos como un recurso político para defender su gestión y posicionarse frente a otros poderes; al mismo tiempo que en su carácter de los alter ego del rey buscaron defender su estrategia de gobierno y asegurar su continuidad como agentes políticos del poder regio.

    The government of the territories of the Hispanic Monarchy required the experience of political agents who represented the royal power.
