  • This chapter presents insights from the author's sabbatical journey throughout the USA. It brings together the sabbatical journey and train travel to explore the author's transformative experiences on spiritual enlightenment. Using autoethnography, the author explains why the sabbatical journey was a pilgrimage. Transformation, self-discovery, healing, learning and extraordinary experiences are the main elements which can lead to understanding a journey as a pilgrimage.
