En la actualidad nos encontramos con obras en papel muy heterogéneas. Esto supone un reto en cuanto a su conservación, y conllevará un cambio necesario en relación a la función del restaurador frente a estas creaciones tan dispares. En algunas ocasiones nos plantearemos acometer su conservación con una visión convencional, y en otras, en las que nuestro papel será más activo, nos enfrentaremos a nuevas facetas, como nuestra necesaria presencia en procesos creativos para documentar y atender a las necesidades específicas de las obras o del montaje —y, así, minimizar su deterioro durante el tiempo de exposición—, o en procesos de instalación de las obras, para poder afrontar un nuevo montaje a posteriori y que este represente lo más fielmente la idea original del artista.

Currently we find very heterogeneous paper works. Multiple layers, different elaboration procedures and ignorance of the constituent materials. This change is a challenge for us in how to deal with its conservation. The restorer’s functions in the face of these disparate creations will be modified. On some occasions we will consider its conservation with a more traditional vision, and in others, our role will be more active. Documentation and review are new necessary facets that take us out of the workshop. Our presence will be necessary in the creative processes to document and thus attend to specific conservation needs, minimizing their deterioration throughout their exhibition.
Our participation in the data collection of the installation of paper installations will allow us to face a new assembly afterwards representing the original idea of the artist. Our interventions, will be located on the border between the transmission of the artist’s idea and the preservation of the original, involve a new critical approach: rethinking the role we have as main actors to prolong both their material and conceptual life.
