La colección de calcos del Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales, formada por más de 2200 dibujos realizados sobre papel translúcido o papel convencional de distinto gramaje, es el resultado del trabajo de la Comisión de Investigaciones Paleontológicas y Prehistóricas —la CIPP— (1912-1936). Durante casi veinticinco años, la CIPP recorrió la geografía española copiando y reproduciendo el arte parietal en abrigos y cuevas, con el objeto de estudiar y aportar nueva información al Paleolítico Superior y la paleontología del Cuaternario. La Comisión, integrada en su totalidad por arqueólogos y paleontólogos españoles, marcó una nueva era en el estudio de la prehistoria y reunió sus investigaciones en los treinta y ocho volúmenes de Memorias de la CIPP.

The «Calcos collection» of the National Museum of Natural Sciences, formed by more than 2200 drawings made on tracing or conventional paper of different grammage, is the result of the work of the Commission of Paleontological and Prehistoric Research —the CIPP— (1912-1936). The CIPP travelled throughout the Spanish geography copying and reproducing the parietal art in shelters and caves for almost 25 years to study and provide new information to the Upper Palaeolithic and Quaternary palaeontology. The commission, entirely integrated by Spanish archaeologists and palaeontologists, marked a new era in the study of prehistory and gathered its research in the 38 volumes of Memories of the CIPP.
