El objetivo del escrito es revisar el trato generalizado de la mujer vieja en la modernidad temprana para demostrar una discriminación generalizada en su contra. Se presentan algunos ejemplos de los estereotipos proliferados en la literatura de la época. También, en archivos de la Inquisición mexicana, se encuentran narrativas cuyo contenido revela un lenguaje discriminatorio en cuanto a la mujer vieja. Se toman en cuenta epístolas y memorias de mujeres que lamentan el paso del tiempo, y el cambio de su físico por el inicio de la vejez o la decrepitud

The purpose of this text is to review the general treatment of the elderly woman in the Early Modern period to show the widespread discrimination against them. Certain examples in the epoch’s literature are presented to demonstrate which widespread stereotypes were in place. In addition, in Mexican Inquisitorial archives, there are narratives whose discriminatory language is revealed as pertain to old women. Female correspondence and diaries are considered in which the author mourns the passing of time, and the physical changes that occur at the onset of ageing or physical demise.
