Resumen de Colecciones Entomológicas: importancia y problemática

Las colecciones entomológicas resguardan ejemplares de insectos y forman parte de las colecciones de Historia Natural. Son importantes para generar conocimiento sobre distintos aspectos del grupo biológico más numeroso en especies sobre el planeta. En este trabajo se resaltan dos aspectos relevantes sobre las colecciones entomológicas: su importancia en diferentes ámbitos del conocimiento y la cultura y los problemas que enfrentan para su existencia y funcionalidad. Se espera que la difusión que se logre hacer sobre este tema contribuya en la búsqueda de soluciones a la problemática que las colecciones científicas enfrentan, particularmente las que se encuentran en países en vías de desarrollo que poseen elevada biodiversidad.

Entomological collections house insect specimens and are part of the Natural History collections. They are important to generate knowledge about different aspects of the most numerous biological groups in species on the planet. In this work, two relevant aspects of entomological collections are highlighted: their importance in different fields of knowledge and culture and the problems they face in their existence and functionality. It is expected that the dissemination of the addressed topic would contribute to the search for ways of solving the problems that scientific collections face, particularly those found in developing countries which count with great biodiversity.
