Los memoriales del comerciante sefardita Pedro de Baeza al Consejo de Indias proponían una reorganización de los circuitos comerciales españoles y portugueses en Asia y del comercio transpacífico para centrarse en el monopolio de las especias, ocupando militarmente las Molucas. A su vez, el comerciante y sus socios importarían de la China mercurio y oro chino dado el alto valor que la plata americana tenía en China con respecto a otros mercados. El oro sustituiría a los textiles cargados en el galeón de Manila. El mundo de Baeza, muerto en 1617, desapareció en 1640 con la separación de Portugal y los autos de fe en la India, América y España.

The memorials of the Sephardic merchant Pedro de Baeza to the Council the Indies suggested a reorganization of the Spanish and Portuguese trading routes in Asia and of the transPacific commerce with the intention of creating a monopoly of the spice market through the conquest of the Molucca Islands. In addition, De Baeza and his partners would import mercury and gold from China in view of the high price they had in China compared to anywhere else.
Gold would substitute the textile products of the Manila galleon. Baeza’s world (who died in 1617) disappeared in 1640 with the separation of Portugal from the Spanish crown and the autos da fe in India, America, and Spain.
