In light of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s and Jacob Grimm’s ideas on the anonymous nature of epic poetry, this contribution shows in which form the concept of anonymity underlies Gaston Paris’ philological discourse in terms of both content and methodology.

Ausgehend von den Vorstellungen Johann Wolfgang von Goethes und Jacob Grimms zum anonymen Charakter epischer Dichtung wird gezeigt, in welcher Form die Idee der Anonymität dem philologischen Diskurs von Gaston Paris sowohl auf der inhaltlichen als auch auf der methodologischen Ebene zu Grunde liegt.
