Resumen de León: De campamento legionario a capital del reino

  Revisamos las evidencias relativas a la legio VII gemina, el campamento romano situado en el solar de la actual ciudad de León, hasta que éste se convirtió en capital del reino de León.

  La falta de información documental y arqueológica ha hecho que esta época se tuviese como una “edad oscura”1. Si bien es cierto que día a día se van llenando lagunas en el conocimiento de esta etapa histórica, todavía nos queda mucho por conocer.

  Presentamos el estado de la cuestión basándonos en las intervenciones arqueológicas realizadas en la ciudad y en las publicaciones habidas en los últimos años.

  We review the evidences relating to the Legio VII Gemina, the Roman camp located on the site of the current city of León, until it became the capital of the kingdom of León.

  This time has been considered as a “dark age” because of the lack of documentary and archaeological information. While it is true that day by day gaps are being filled in the knowledge of this historical stage, we still have much to know.

  We present the state of the matter based on the archaeological interventions carried out in the city and on the publications made in recent years.
