    Cuando los duques de Medina Sidonia eran nombrados Gobernadores y Capitanes Generales de Milán por los sucesivos reyes, iniciaban un viaje desde su palacio de Sanlúcar de Barrameda hasta Milán, llevando con ellos no solo a sus sirvientes sino también sus mejores joyas, objetos de plata y tapices. El archivo de la Fundación Medina Sidonia contiene abundante documentación inédita sobre estos viajes. Un ejemplo es el del VII duque en el año 1581.

    When the Dukes of Medina Sidonia were appointed Governor and Captains General of Milan by the successive Kings, they undertook extremely expensive journeys from their palace in the city of Sanlúcar de Barrameda to Milan, taking with them not only their servants, but also their jewels, silver objects and best tapestries. The archive of the Medina Sidonia Foundation contains abundant unpublished information on these journeys. An example is that of the Seventh Duke in the year 1581.
