Resumen de Discusión y problemática profesional en torno a la arquitectura del hierro en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX: el proceso constructivo del Mercado del Val (Valladolid)

  En 1878, el arquitecto municipal de Valladolid, Joaquín Ruiz Sierra, firmaba el proyecto del único mercado de hierro decimonónico que todavía hoy se conserva, aunque muy transformado, en la ciudad de Valladolid: el del Val. Su proceso de construcción fue tan problemático como interesante desde una perspectiva histórica, social, política, constructiva y artística. Hemos realizado un estudio detallado sobre esta cuestión concreta que, contextualizada y manejan-do documentación inédita, ofrece nueva información sobre el desarrollo arquitectónico en Valladolid durante el último cuarto del siglo XIX y permite conocer mejor, a nivel nacional, una parte de nuestra arquitectura del hierro desde un punto de vista histórico y técnico. Diferentes investigaciones han considerado el mercado del Val uno de los más interesantes del siglo XIX en España. Así, en torno a él, este trabajo, basado en el enfrentamiento entre arquitectos, poder político y una sociedad cuya opinión pública era manejada por la prensa, estudia la defensa de la individualidad creativa de una obra arquitectónica.

  In 1878 the municipal architect of Valladolid, Joaquín Ruiz Sierra, signed the project for the only nineteenth-century iron market that remains today, though transformed, in Valladolid: the Val market. Its building process was both problematic and interesting from historical, social, political, constructive, and artistic perspectives.Our paper offers new information about the architectural development in Valladolid in the last quarter of the nineteenth century, thanks to the study of unpublished documents. In addition, it provides a better understanding of our national iron architecture, from historical and technical approaches. Many researchers point out the Val market as one of the most interesting examples of nineteenth-century iron architecture. Thus, our paper focuses on it and its context, marked by the confrontation between architects, political authorities, and a society whose public opinion was manipulated by the press, studying the defense of the creative individuality of architectural work.
