Throughout history, knowledge has been an important factor in the pursuit of economic development. In recent years, that dependence has become much more pronounced, to the extent that knowledge is regarded as the limiting resource in the productive process, more so than other, more traditional, factors. In this context, the term "Human Capital" has taken a singular meaning. The article aims to contribute to the re-evaluation of this concept from the perspective of different trends of economic theory. Generally, the article discusses both the neoclaiscal perspective and the position of Marxist economic theory on the subject, by considering which contexts and methodological perspectives require alternative definitions of the concept of "Human Capital".
