Resumen de La “prioridad absoluta del lenguaje”. Sobre la primera tesis de Eugenio Coseriu en el Coloquio de Estrasburgo

  En su decálogo para el Coloquio de Estrasburgo en 1999, Eugenio Coseriu resume su concep-ción sobre el lenguaje y el significado, destacando que el lenguaje es el agente de la con-dición humana como tal y de la inteligencia en cuanto conceptual. Este carácter fundador estribaría en cómo el lenguaje opera sobre el individuo en los planos social y cognitivo y en su no-reductibilidad a otras capacidades onto- y filogenéticas. El objetivo de este artículo es reexaminar esta tesis central desde las más actuales investigaciones en psicolingüística y psicología del desarrollo, disciplinas que permiten abordar con diferentes herramientas el nexo entre el pensamiento y el lenguaje. Se han revisado materiales del archivo Coseriu, en la Universidad de Tübingen, con el objeto de contextuar sus materiales publicados. La conclusión es que el planteo del gran lingüista, de indudable consistencia interna, debe confrontarse con estudios empíricos que obligan a revisar ciertas afirmaciones sobre as-pectos filosóficos y psicológicos del lenguaje.

  In his decalogue for the Strasbourg Colloquium in 1999, Eugene Coseriu summarized his conception of language and meaning by emphasizing that language would be an agent of the human condition as such and of thought as concept determined. This founding charac-ter would lie in how language operates on the individual at the social and cognitive levels and in its non-reducibility to other onto- and phylogenetic capacities. It is important here to reconsider this central thesis from the point of view of research in psycholinguistics and developmental psychology, disciplines that allow us to approach the nexus between thought and language with different tools. This article aims to re-examine Coseriu’s central thesis from the perspective of the most current research in psycholinguistics and develop-mental psychology, disciplines that allow us to approach the nexus between thought and language with different tools. Materials from the Coseriu archive at the University of Tübin-gen have been reviewed in order to contextualize his published texts. The conclusion is that the approach of the great linguist, of undoubted internal consistency, must be confronted with empirical studies that force a review of certain statements on the philosophical and psychological aspects of language
