Resumen de Identidad y empoderamiento de la profesión de enfermería

Este artículo tiene por objeto indicar la importancia y la necesidad del empoderamiento de la enfermería, con base en los desarrollos que han marcado el inicio del nuevo milenio en América Latina.
Para ello se analizan los desarrollos sociales, de salud y en enfermería que han marcado el inicio del nuevo milenio en América Latina. Posteriormente, se revisa el concepto de empoderamiento a partir de los conceptos de varios autores, para finalmente describir los retos que enfrenta el enfermero en los diferentes campos de su desempeño y la necesidad de empoderamiento en su rol profesional.

This article has as main goal to indicate the importance and necessity of empowerment in nursing, based on the development that have marked the beginning of the new millenium in Latin America.
For achieving this goal, the current situation of social aspects, health and nusring in Latin America are analyzed. After that, the concept of empowerment is reviewed by taking the concepts of different authors. Finally, the article describes the challenges that the nurse faces in the different fields in which he/she works and the necessity of empowerment in his/her professional role.
