It is based on an analysis of the complex educational situation of secondary education and some results of the research carried out in the Eastern Region of Uruguay are communicated. The perceptions of the directors of secondary schools on the subject related to the relationship between family and educational center in this age group were investigated. Four focus groups were designed to be carried out in that geographical area. The research yields consensus in the management teams that the demands and characteristics of the situations they experience with families overflow and exceed their training as teachers and managers. The importance of the role of families in student achievement highlighted by the current bibliography contrasts with the difficulties of working in the territory raised by management teams.
