    En la ciencia de la conciencia actual se ha convertido en un axioma este principio: la conciencia existe. Si aceptamos este principio nos tenemos que preguntar: ¿Qué es? Si realmente queremos evitar las disputas lingüísticas solamente podemos afrontar esta pregunta aclarando y situándonos dentro de la Ontología, rama de la filosofía que estudia que es la realidad y los diferentes tipos de realidad que existen en el universo. Las contribuciones de la Física cuántica al conocimiento de la realidad pero también sus discutibles interpretaciones, nos han obligado a recuperar la clásica distinción entre ontología y epistemología. De esta distinción partiremos para posteriormente exponer los diferentes tipos de seres y poder decidir cuáles de ellos poseen conciencia.

    In the current science of consciousness, this principle has become an axiom: consciousness exists. If we accept this principle, then we have to ask: What is it? If we really want to avoid linguistic disputes, we can only address this question by clarifying and situating ourselves within the Ontology, branch of philosophy that studies what reality is and the different types of reality that exist in the universe. The contributions of quantum physics to the knowledge of reality, but also its arguable interpretations, have forced us to recover the classical distinction between ontology and epistemology. From this distinction we will depart to subsequently expose different types of beings and to decide which of them possess consciousness.
