Revision of the species of Pisidium C. Pfeiffer, 1821 from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Peruand Uruguay (Bivalvia, Sphaeriidae). The present knowledge on the systematics and geographic distributionof species of the genus Pisidium C. Pfeiffer, 1821 in southern South America is scattered in many Englishwritten short papers. The present is an updated and comprehensive Spanish-written revision of the knownspecies of southern South American pisidiids, aiming to be a valuable tool to those interested in studies on theecology of freshwater environments. All nominal species of Pisidium from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Peru andUruguay described since 1835, after d’ Orbigny´s Voyage (1826-1833), are here critically reviewed. Each of the19 Pisidium species recognised as valid is briefly described through an enlarged diagnosis and fully illustratedby scanning electron microscope photographs. Some poorly known species (e. g.: Pisidium dorbignyi, Pisidiumlebruni and Pisidium magellanicum) are fully redescribed and figured.
