First palynological results from the northeast of Chubut Province, central Patagonia, are given. The material comes from outcrops overlying La Colonia Formation (Late Cretaceous). About 30 different taxa were recognized. The assemblage is dominated by diverse angiosperm pollen. Gymnosperms and algal spores and colonies are common, pteridophytes very scarce. The paleoenvironment is interpreted as representing a freshwater shallow water body developed under a temperate climate. The age of the sequence is discussed.
