Este trabajo aborda las posibles fuentes históricas utilizadas por Domingo de San Antón Muñón Chimalpáhin para conformar la figura de Ecatépec como altepetl durante el Posclásico y la primera mitad del siglo XVI. Esta idea se encuentra registrada en cuatro de sus obras: La tercera y séptima relación de las diferentes historias originales, El Memorial breve acerca de la fundación de la ciudad de Colhuacán, y su Diario. Además, explica el tipo de altepetl que era Ecatépec según la información ofrecida por Chimalpáhin; y cuál podría ser el motivo que lo impulsó a integrar esta localidad en las historias a preservar para las generaciones futuras.

This work regards the possible historical sources used by Domingo de San Anton Muñon Chimalpahin to conform the figure of Ecatepec as altepetl during the Postclassic and the first half of the 16th century. This idea is registered in four of his works: The third and seventh relations of the different original stories, The Brief memorial about the founding of the city of Colhuacan, and his Diary. Besides, this work explains the type of altepetl Ecatepec was according to the information offered by Chimalpahin; and what could be the reason that prompted him to integrate this locality into the stories to be preserved for future generations.
