But there was a Catholic American poet called Phyllis McGinley, who was the author of a book of poems entitled Saints without Tears, which includes a poem about St. Martin of Tours. Did Álvaro Cunqueiro know about the book and the poem, by this poet? Did he read it? If he did, why did he change the author’s surname? Why did he keep making the same mistake for years? Or was it simply a slip of the pen? Or could it have been a literary joke?
