    A pesar de la importancia actual que presenta el monumento conmemorativo como parte de la decoración de la ciudad, en realidad, éste no comenzó a adquirir un notable desarrollo hasta prácticamente llegado el final del siglo XIX. Su importancia reside en el valor para comprender tanto a personajes del momento como acontecimientos fundamentales de la historia, sin embargo, su temática no sólo se centra en el presente, sino que con frecuencia vuelve sus ojos al pasado para así rememorar la grandeza de España a través de hechos y personajes fundamentales que, con frecuencia, fueron importantes para el desarrollo de la ciudad en que se levantan.

    Despite the current importance that it presents the memorial monument as a part of the decoration of the city, actually, this did not begin to acquire a remarkable development to almost reached the end of the nineteenth century. Its importance lies in the value to understand the characters of the moment and fundamental events of history, however, its subject is not focused only on the present, but often turns to the past to remember the greatness of Spain through essential facts and characters, that frequently, were important to the development in the city where they were risen.
