About Statistics on Cooperatives in Argentina

    El objetivo del artículo es analizar la información sobre cooperativas generada y publicada por fuentes oficiales desde los orígenes del cooperativismo argentino, para examinar sus características, utilidad y limitaciones. Se trata de ofrecer un panorama del cooperativismo actual a partir de las fuentes estadísticas disponibles en el Instituto Nacional de Asociativismo y Economía Social, organismo que regula la actividad de las cooperativas. El artículo sistematiza los datos de un registro basado en la información proporcionada al organismo por las cooperativas registradas. Tomando como referencia la fuente estadística oficial, se clasifica el sector para el año 2021 según la actividad económica principal de las cooperativas, y otros indicadores que permiten identificar la distribución y el peso de las distintas ramas del cooperativismo argentino, tanto en número de asociados como en puestos de trabajo creados.

    The aim of the article is to analyze the information on cooperatives generated and published by official sources since the origins of Argentine cooperativism, in order to examine its characteristics, usefulness and limitations. The idea is to provide an overview of current cooperativism based on statistical sources available at the National Institute of Associativism and Social Economy - the body that regulates the activity of cooperatives. The article systematizes the data from a register based on information provided to the agency by registered cooperatives. Referring to the official statistical source, the sector for the year 2021 is classified according to the main economic activity of the cooperatives, and other indicators that allow us to identify the distribution and weight of the various branches of Argentine cooperativism, both in terms of the number of associates and in terms of the jobs created.
