The use of social media platforms as an educational tool has expanded massively due to the recent importance that they have gained. Students and teachers have found social media a new platform for teaching, learning, and research. Instagram is currently one of the most widely used social media in the world, especially among young people. Thanks to its popularity, this platform has been used in multiple learning experiences.
This chapter proposes to use content published on this platform for the understanding of certain statistical concepts through explanatory examples. We have identified several accounts that take advantage of their success among their followers to carry out surveys and studies on different topics. This information is used as a resource to explain some key concepts in statistics applied to the social sciences in a more applied way. This teaching innovation proposes a theoretical-practical content that can be later used in the classroom. The material created is aimed at students of statistics applied to the social sciences.
