The present research focuses on a particular educational experiment, the main objective of which was to incorporate new critical approaches to culture theory, or critical theory (specifically, gender criticism and studies on new masculinities), through an analysis of a wide range of theoretical texts (from Virginia Woolf to Judith Butler, Guasch, and Anderson), which are interpreted in various short stories in modern Catalan literature. We understand that this critical approach that enables us to question the ideological meaning of texts (with regard to gender, sexuality, ethnicity, class, and space) has not been incorporated into the education system in any way that can be considered cross-disciplinary or far-reaching. Ultimately, the goal is to foster critical thinking among our students, so as to eradicate gender identity discrimination. The research methodology was implemented with students from the course Modern Catalan Literature (Literatura Catalana Actual) during the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years. The instrument we designed to assess their level of knowledge on culture theory and to evaluate the extent to which they made use of the educational experiment took shape as a questionnaire (quantitative assessment) and included specific critical comments made by students (qualitative assessment).
