Resumen de Suerte material del Fuero Juzgo, un libro de leyes

Angeles Romero Cambrón

  • The Liber Iudicum is the legal corpus that includes the legislative activity of the Visigothic kings.

This work and its Castilian version entitled Fuero Juzgo, have been throughout Iberian history a crucial reference for jurists and men of letters. For these reasons the copies of this work have been amply disseminated and have been much used (study, consultation, annotation). These circumstances have originated some material characteristics that all manuscripts have in common: an efficacious procedure for identifying a law, annotations, creation of miscellanies and elaborations of working as opposed to luxurious copies. In addition, the repeated use of the copies has caused their damage, which they have attempted to fix and has created modifications. The particular textual transmission of the Liber and the Fuero has marked the material history of these codices. These codicological properties have remained constant for most than eleven centuries, from the promulgation of the Liber in 654 until the 19th century.
