Resumen de Fronteras imaginarias: limitantes de la creatividad en una ciudad cultural

Desde hace más de un siglo Xalapa, capital deVeracruz es reconocida como una ciudadcultural. Sin embargo, el crecimiento desmedidoy sin planeación que la ciudad ha tenido en lasúltimas cuatro décadas; la han llevado aexperimentar cambios importantes en su vidasocial. Las representaciones sociales presentadaspor dos grupos de la población, demuestran queexiste una clara escisión en el imaginario urbanoentre: el área histórica (centro) la cual estáasociada con una fuerte actividad cultural y losasentamientos más recientes (las colonias),identificados con pobreza y bajo capital cultural.Esta clara diferenciación de los espacios urbanosha conducido a una disociación de los habitantes,sentido de pertenencia e identidad. Así como a laimposibilidad de integrar los diferentes estilos devida que se manifiestan en estas comunidades.Como consecuencia de este desfasamiento, laplaneación urbana generalmente no responde alas necesidades e intereses de los habitantes de laciudad.Mediante el análisis comparativo de distintasrepresentaciones de la ciudad este trabajo proponereflexionar sobre los elementos que componen ladesintegración social. Lo anterior con la meta deidentificar los posibles puentes en estasrepresentaciones que permitan concebir y planeara este centro de actividad artístico-cultural comouna ciudad creativa.

Xalapa has been identified as a cultural city morethan a century ago. However, the unruly andunplanned growth that the city has experiencedover the last forty years, has taken Xalapa aback,experimenting as a consequence importantchanges on its social life.The social representations given by the inhabitants and local public servants show thatthere are clear scions in the urban imaginary,between the historical centre –which is associated with an active cultural life, and the irregularsettlements (colonias populares) which are linkedto poverty and low cultural capital.This clear differentiation of the urban spaceshas led to a dissociation among the inhabitantsand their sense of belonging and identity. Theprevious along the lack of common elements tointegrate the different life styles, that thesecommunities have. As a consequence of this lackof synchronization, the urban planning usuallydoes not respond to the needs and interests ofthe city.This paper seeks to reflect of the differentelements that generate disintegration, throughthe comparative analysis of the oral testimoniesprovided by people from the different sectors.The former aims to identify the possible connections on these representations that might lead tothink and plan this center of cultural and artisticactivities as a creative city.
