    El cine es algo más que un mero divertimento. A partir del siglo XX el cine se unió a la novela y al cuento en el propósito de contar la historia íntima de las naciones, como alguna vez definió Vargas Llosa a la literatura. Y, al asumir el estatus de “narrador de nuestro tiempo”, el cine se ha convertido en algo mucho más poderoso que la llamada industria del entretenimiento. Como lo ha sido desde la antigüedad, el acto de narrar es una forma de exploración de lo humano, un modo de pensar el tiempo y la existencia.

    Cinema is more than mere amusement. From the XXth century on, cinema joined the novel and the short story in their purpose of telling the intimate story of nations, as Vargas Llosa once said when defining literature. And by asuming the role of “narrator of our time”, cinema has become something much more powerful than the so called entertainment industry. The narrative act is, as it has been since ancient times, a form of exploration of humanity, a way of thinking time and existence.
