The second half of the eighteenth century saw a dramatic increase in scientific interest in the study of certain natural phenomena. But this was not an obstacle to censorship, and information on disasters occurring in the territories of the Hispanic Monarchy continued to be controlled and withdrawn from circulation. To what extent did geostrategic factors play a role in the removal of reports on the effects of such disasters? To address this question, the article analyses the circulation and subsequent confiscation by the Consejo de Indias, of a report printed in Cádiz and Madrid, on the effects caused by a hurricane in Havana and the surrounding regions in October 1768. The aim is to contribute to the debate and add to knowledge about the circulation of information on eighteenth-century disasters in the Americas.
