    En este artículo de investigación se repasa la propuesta de Bello sobre la denominación de los tiempos verbales para resaltar su eficacia y cómo esta fue pionera de los estudios que siguieron. Aunque se ha escrito mucho sobre Bello, nuestro propósito es retomar mediante una metodología cualitativa algunos aspectos de sus reflexiones para evidenciar que la huella de su labor ha servido y sigue sirviendo de inspiración a los estudios sobre la gramática y la lingüística de la lengua española. La calidad y la amplitud del aporte cultural de Andrés Bello a los distintos ámbitos del saber (filológico, gramatical, lingüístico, filosófico, jurídico, pedagógico…) es algo ya ampliamente reconocido. La riqueza de sus estudios es descomunal y, gracias a su enorme versatilidad, se le reconoce incluso como uno de los más agudos intérpretes de la cultura de su tiempo. Sus estudios lingüísticos influyeron notablemente en la aceptación y difusión de la variante americana del español, promoviendo el valor y la originalidad del español de América y contribuyendo así a la creación de un español universal. El impacto de sus propuestas concernientes al sistema gramatical, en general, y a las denominaciones que atribuyó a los tiempos del sistema verbal, en particular, fueron fundamentales para la gramática y la lingüística del español.

    In this research article, the inquiry by Bello on the naming of tenses to signal its effectiveness and modernity is proposed once again. Much has been written about Bello, so our purpose is to take up with a methodological qualitative perspective some aspects of his reflections to show that the imprint of his work has been and continues to be a source of inspiration for studies on grammar and linguistics in the Spanish language.The breadth and quality of Andrés Bello’s cultural contribution in the various fields of knowledge (philological, grammatical, linguistic, philosophical, juridical, pedagogical…) are now widely recognized; the richness of his studies is unusual, also thanks to the characteristic of versatility, having been one of the most acute interpreters of the culture of his time. His linguistic studies greatly influenced the acceptance and diffusion of the American variant of Spanish, promoting the value and originality of the American variant and contributing to the creation of a universal Spanish. The impact of his proposals concerning the grammatical system in general and the denominations he attributed to the tenses of the verbal system in particular were fundamental for the grammar and linguistics of Spanish.
