    Between 1984 and 1994, five meetings organized by Saul Sosnowski to discuss "Culture and redemocratization in the Southern Cone" with Latin American intellectuals were held at the University of Maryland. Although in each meeting particular issues on the political culture of Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Chile and Paraguay were discussed, we believe that it is possible to connect these meetings because of the recurrence of topics and the common political language used. In this sense, this work seeks to explore these encounters as entries to the political-intellectual debate of "the return to democracy", and indicators of the common coordinates that delimited the possibilities and limitations of the newborn democracies.

    Entre 1984 e 1994, cinco reuniões de intelectuais latino-americanos convocadas por Saúl Sosnowski foram realizadas na Universidade de Maryland para discutir "Cultura e redemocratização no cone sul". Embora em cada reunião tenham sido discutidas questões específicas que formaram a cultura política da Argentina, Uruguai, Brasil, Chile e Paraguai, respectivamente, acreditamos que é possível conectar essas reuniões pela recorrência de tópicos ou tópicos, e também porque esses temas foram erigidos sobre uma linguagem política comum. Nesse sentido, este trabalho procura explorar essas reuniões como entradas para o debate político-intelectual do "retorno à democracia" e às coordenadas comuns que delimitaram as possibilidades e limitações das democracias nascentes.
