Conocimientos sobre lactancia materna en madres de niños menores de 2 años de edad de la Universidad Técnica de Babahoyo

    La lactancia materna es el proceso por el quela madre alimenta a su hijo a través de sus senos, y que debería ser el principal alimento del bebé al menos hasta los dos años de edad; por lo que la leche materna se convierte en la alimentación idónea porque además de ser inocua brinda los nutrientes esenciales para el óptimo crecimiento y desarrollo cognitivo y físico y además protege al niño de las enfermedades propias de la infancia. Determinar los conocimientos sobre lactancia materna en las madres de niños menores de 2 años de edad de la Universidad Técnica de Babahoyo. Estudio observacional, descriptivo con enfoque cuantitativo a247 mujeres de la comunidad universitaria, con hijos menores de 2 años de edad y que están siendo alimentados con leche materna. Se midió los conocimientos sobre lactancia materna, dicha información se obtuvo a través de una encuesta en líneaen Google Forms, se tabuló y organizó la información en gráficos y tablas estadísticas en Microsoft Excel 2010. Las estudiantes con hijos menores de 2 años prevalecieron entre las mujeres de la comunidad universitaria con el 93,5%, las madres tuvieron una respuesta acertada (47,1%) a que la leche materna se debe ofrecer a demanda del niño y no imponer horarios. El 82,1% de las madres señaló conocer lo que es el calostro. Más de la mitad de las madres encuestadas conoce sobre las ventajas de la lactancia materna; asimismo al tiempo recomendado para amantar, el 62% reconoce que no existe un tiempo ideal.

    Breastfeeding is the process by which the motherfeeds her child through her breasts, and which should be the baby's main food at least until two years of age; Therefore, breast milk becomes the ideal diet because in addition to being safe, it provides essential nutrients for optimal growth and cognitive and physical development and also protects the child from childhood diseases. To determine the knowledge about breastfeeding in mothers of children under 2 years of age at the Technical University of Babahoyo. Observational, descriptive study with a quantitative approach to 247 women from the university community, with children under 2 years of age and who are being breastfed. Knowledge about breastfeeding was measured, this information was obtained through an online survey in Google Forms, the information was tabulated and organized in graphs and statistical tables in Microsoft Excel 2010. Students with children under 2 years of age prevailed among the women from the university community with 93.5%, mothers had an accurate response (47.1%) to the fact that breast milk should be offered at the child's request and not impose schedules. 82.1% of mothers indicated that they knew what colostrum was. More than half of the mothers surveyed know about the advantages of breastfeeding; Likewise, regarding the recommended time for breastfeeding, 62% recognize that there is no ideal time.
