  The present work is an approach to the panorama of the commission and production of pictorial work in the city of Xàtiva between 1550 and 1600. This was a time of social and economic development at a local level, after the crisis of the Germanies, which was reflected in a large number of artistic enterprises. We analyse the commissioning of works from prestigious workshops in the Valencian capital, as in the case of the altarpiece of Sant Sebastià, painted by Pere Joan Tàpia for the church of the notaries. Attention is also paid to the configuration of the local market, the establishment of foreign painters, such as Miquel de Utiel, and the existence of masters with a certain trajectory, such as Rafael Pasqual, with information that allows us to gain a better understanding of their clientele and work.

  El present treball es planteja com una aproximació al panorama de la comissió i producció d’obra pictòrica en la ciutat de Xàtiva entre els anys 1550 i 1600. Es tracta d’un moment de desplegament social i econòmic a nivell local, desprès de la crisi de les Germanies, que es reflexa en un important nombre d’empreses artístiques. S’analitza l’encomana d’obres a tallers de prestigi de la capital valenciana, seguint el cas del retaule de Sant Sebastià, pintat per Pere Joan Tàpia per a l’església dels notaris. Igualment, es presta atenció a la configuració del mercat local, a l’assentament de pintors forans, com Miquel d’Utiel, o l’existència de mestres de certa trajectòria, com Rafael Pasqual, amb notícies que permeten un millor coneixement de la seua clientela i obra.
