    El artículo describe la forma en que dos importantes instituciones elaboraron una especie de «historia oficial» sobre el conflicto armado interno que sufrió Guatemala en la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Después de exponer las principales características que tuvo dicho enfrentamiento se pasa a describir, en detalle, la forma en que fue presentado por la Comisión del Esclarecimiento Histórico de la ONU y la Oficina de Derechos Humanos del Arzobispado de Guatemala para construir un relato totalmente favorable a la guerrilla. Se concluye resumiendo las consecuencias políticas y jurídicas que tal tergiversación ha tenido en años posteriores.

    The article describes the way in which two important institutions elaborated a kind of «official history» about the internal armed conflict that Guatemala suffered in the second half of the 20th century. After exposing the main characteristics of this confrontation, it goes on to describe, in detail, the way in which it was presented by the UN Historical Clarification Commission and the Human Rights Office of the Archdiocese of Guatemala in order to build a story totally favorable to The guerrilla. It concludes by summarizing the political and legal consequences that such misrepresentation has had in later years.
