    La independencia de Centroamérica, y su posterior organización institucional, es un proceso que comenzó mucho antes del 15 de septiembre de 1821. El presente trabajo es una introducción a la influencia que tuvo la Constitución de Cádiz de 1812 en el accionar de los patriotas de la región y cómo estos tomaron ese documento como referencia a la hora de organizar institucionalmente la nación recientemente independizada. Cómo operó en los patriotas la disyuntiva entre sus ideales y las posibilidades fácticas de implementarlos. De qué manera, la nueva geografía política condicionó el accionar de los constituyentes y sus ideas de organización institucional.

    The independence of Central America and its subsequent institutional organization is a process that began long before September 15, 1821. This paper is an introduction to the influence that the Cádiz Constitution of 1812 had on the actions of the patriots of the region and how they took that document as a guide to organize the institutions of the recently independent nation. How the dilemma between their ideals and the factual possibilities of implementing them operated in the patriots. In what way, the new political geography conditioned the actions of the constituents and their ideas on the institutional organization the country.
