Resumen de Platón y la democracia: una relación complicada

Se pretende entender los argumentos que tiene Platón contra el régimen democrático, en especial detalle se verá hasta qué punto su crítica continúa siendo válida para constituciones democráticas modernas. Las obras tratadas serán mayoritariamente La República y, en menor medida, Las Leyes. Entre los temas centrales estarán la reflexión sobre la caverna y la sociedad civil, la preponderancia de la opinión sobre la sabiduría y la tiranía de la mayoría a la que se llegará con la continua degeneración del Estado. Se trata también la tensión entre el filósofo y la polis, la innovación contra la costumbre.

This paper examines Plato's main arguments against democracy. Special attention will be given to understanding if some of his arguments are still applicable to our modern democratic constitutions. The main works of reference will be The Republic and The Laws. We will be centering the discussion on the following topics: The cave and civil society, the preponderance of opinion over wisdom, and the degeneration of the state that will lead to a tyranny of the majority. Also, we will discuss the fundamental tension between the philosopher and the polis, innovation against customs.
