Existe un tipo de liberalismo que sostiene que la religión y la razón son incompatibles; que la religión se debe respetar, pero que en algún momento desaparecerá. El autor pone en duda estas tesis y hace una invitación a estudiar las relaciones entre la religión y la sociedad libre. En su parte propositiva, sostiene que el cristianismo se caracteriza, precisamente, por buscar la compatibilidad entre razón y fe, y que gran parte del impulso que recibió la ciencia occidental en sus albores tiene como fundamento una visión metafísica realista, apoyada por la Iglesia.

There is a type of liberalism that maintains that religion and reason are incompatible; that religion should be respected, but that at some point it will disappear. The author questions these theses and makes an invitation to study the relationship between religion and free society. In its propositive part, it maintains that Christianity is characterized, precisely, by seeking compatibility between reason and faith, and that much of the impulse that Western science received in its early days is based on a realistic metaphysical vision, supported by the Church.
