    Las excavaciones arqueológicas que desde el año 1988 se realizan en el yacimiento arqueológico de el Tolmo de Minateda (Hellín), han permitido conocer una gran planta de iglesia y edificios anexos. Sus responsables científicos buscaron el nombre y la función del lugar acudiendo a intentar hallar topónimos, la conclusión es que la ciudad se llamaba Ilinum en época romana e Iyyih/Iyyuh/Iyyah en la época islámica, pero al desear que el lugar sea una sede episcopal visigoda, han distorsionado la interpretación de algunas firmas de las actas de los Concilios de Toledo, que tradicionalmente eran leídas como de la ecclesia Elotana, es decir de Elo, nombre bien documentado en itineraria de la antigüedad y alta edad media, que permiten situar en el yacimiento arqueológico de El Monastil (Elda), lugar que albergó la citada silla episcopal elotana. Sin embargo, el equipo científico de el Tolmo, defiende la lectura eiotana, de una ciudad llamada Eio, que sin embargo no aparece citada en ninguna fuente.

    The archaeological excavations that have been carried out in the Tolmo de Minateda (Hellín), they have revealed a large church floor plan with and attached buildings.
