  • The origins and development of dialectic are traced from Zeno and the Eleatic school through Plato. The essay provides a justification for claiming that Zeno invented dialectic and explicates three senses in which it is paradoxically appropriate to claim that Plato perfected dialectic before Aristotle systematized and analyzed it.
