Pese a la relevancia de la participación de las familias en los centros escolares, en España apenas hay estudios al respecto en la etapa de la Educación Secundaria. Dado que el principal mecanismo generado para lograr esta participación han sido las asociaciones de familiares (AMPAS), nos hemos propuesto conocer su situación. Hemos contactado con todas las AMPAS de los centros públicos de una comunidad autónoma y han respondido un amplio cuestionario (con preguntas abiertas y cerradas). La situación de las AMPAS es ambigua: se asocian más madres que padres, pocas personas están altamente implicadas, hay aislamiento entre las asociaciones y los recursos son limitados. Sus principales funciones son la reivindicación de mejoras en el centro y la participación en el Consejo Escolar.
Despite the relevance of the participation of families in schools, in Spain there are hardly any studies in this respect in the stage of Secondary Education. Given that the main mechanism generated to achieve this participation has been the associations of families (AMPAS), we have proposed to know their situation. We have contacted all the AMPAS of the public centres of an autonomous community and they have answered an extensive questionnaire (with open and closed questions). The situation of the AMPAS is ambiguous: more mothers than fathers are associated, few people are highly involved, there is isolation between the associations and resources are limited. Their main functions are to demand improvements in the school and to participate in the School Council.
