Resumen de A inversão de papéis no romance A Selva, de Ferreira de Castro, em uma perspectiva pós-colonial

  Este trabalho faz uma leitura do romance A Selva, do escritor português Ferreira de Castro, em uma perspectiva pós-colonial. Assim, observamos o olhar de um europeu sobre os colonizados (brasileiros), através da inversão de papéis das personagens Alberto, português na posição de colonizado, e Juca Tristão, brasileiro como colonizador. Sustentamos nossas discussões com as abordagens de teóricos que se preocuparam com o estudo a respeito do Outro (Said 2007, Gondim 2007, Pratt 1999). Dialogamos também com os trabalhos de Cunha (2006), que relata e denuncia o sistema de exploração humano nos seringais da Amazônia; de Emery (1999) a respeito do romance A Selva, e de Tocantins (1999), que discorre sobre o escritor Ferreira de Castro. Observamos que o romance faz uma denúncia social sobre o sistema exploratório nos seringais amazônicos do início do século xx, bem como divulga a região. Por fim, este estudo aponta a resistência de uma personagem europeia em se considerar como o Outro.

  This work is a reading of the novel A Selva, by the Portuguese writer Ferreira de Castro, in a post- colonial perspective. Thus, we observe the look of an European on the colonized (Brazilians), by reversing the roles of the characters Alberto, a Portuguese on the colonized position, and Juca Tristao, as a Brazilian colonizer. We hold our discussions with theorists’ approaches concerned with the study about the Other (Said 2007, Gondim 2007, Pratt 1999). We also dialogue with the works of Cunha (2006) reporting and denouncing the human operating system in the Amazonian rubber plantations; of Emery (1999) about the novel A Selva, and of Tocantins (1999) that discusses about the writer Ferreira de Castro. We observed that the novel is a social denunciation of the exploratory system in the Amazonian rubber plantations of the early twentieth century, as well as spreads out the region. Finally, this study points out the resistance of an European character to be considered as the Other.
