  • A recently described species, Stolephorus mercurius Hata et al. 2021, currently known from Western Pacific Ocean, is herein reported for the first time from Indian Ocean on the basis of four specimens collected from Markandi landing centre (Ganjam District) along the southern Odisha coast, Bay of Bengal. Detailed morphometric characters of Stolephorus mercurius specimens along with comparison with its congeners are provided in this paper. A key to identification of Stolephorus species known from the Indian Ocean is also appended
