    The city of Xàtiva shows an appearance that goes back to the XVIII century, hiding buildings and vestiges of the past. This fact is a consequence, first of all, of the burning of the city and then of the earthquakes suffered in 1748. The reconstruction of a large part of the city followed the aesthetic currents prevailing at the time. Having dispensed with in some cases and have hidden in other, previous elements that had survived until then, giving the city an aspect that, if it were not for its urbanism, would invite to think that it was a new city. The analysis of some of these buildings helps to understand which were the changes that contributed to the transformation of the city.

    La ciutat de Xàtiva mostra una aparença que es remunta al segle XVIII, ocultant construccions i vestigis d’èpoques passades. Aquest fet és conseqüència, primerament, de la crema de la ciutat i a continuació, dels terratrèmols sofrits l’any 1748. La reconstrucció de gran part del parc edificat va seguir les corrents estètiques imperants al seu moment, prescindint en uns casos i amagant en altres, elements anteriors que havien perdurat fins llavors i atorgant a la ciutat un aspecte que, si no fos pel seu urbanisme, convidaria a pensar que es tractava d’una ciutat de nova planta. L’anàlisi d’algunes d’aquestes edificacions ajuda a entendre quins van ser els canvis que van contribuir a la transformació de la ciutat.
