Este artículo expone la información proporcionada durante la ponencia llevada a cabo en el Congreso de Ciencias de la Educación que se realizó en febrero de 2003 en la Facultad de Educación, UADY, en Mérida, Yucatán. Se presenta un complejo panorama general que delimita el campo de relación entre la cultura científica y la educación. Lejos de intentar ofrecer respuestas o conclusiones con respecto al tema en cuestión, los autores comparten algunos puntos de reflexión que consideran centrales para pensar el lugar y el papel de la educación en el mundo contemporáneo, con el fin de abrir nuevos campos de análisis y de discusión en relación con la cultura científica. Los autores concluyen que la sociedad ha comenzado a concebir de forma más compleja el papel de la tecnociencia y se ha visto obligada a diseñar mecanismos de alfabetización científica que van más allá de la asimilación de los conocimientos generados por la comunidad científica.

This article presents the information provided during the presentation given at the Conference of Educational Sciences that was held in February 2003 at the School of Education, UADY, in Mérida, Yucatán. A complex overview is presented to define the field of relationship between scientific culture and education. Far from trying to offer answers or conclusions regarding the subject in question, the authors share some points of reflection that they consider central to think about the place and role of education in the contemporary world, in order to open new fields of analysis and discussion in relation to scientific culture. The authors conclude that society has begun to conceive the role of technoscience in a more complex way and, it has been forced to design scientific literacy mechanisms that go beyond the assimilation of the knowledge generated by the scientific community.
