El papel del docente de secundaria en la prevención del abuso de substancias en los adolescentes

    El presente trabajo de tipo exploratorio, tiene el propósito de determinar los conocimientos y actitudes de los docentes de secundaria hacia el abuso de sustancias y las formas en que su papel de docente pudiera ayudar a prevenir este problema en sus alumnos. Se revisan y listan los contenidos alusivos a ese tema en el currículo de las escuelas secundarias.

    En una muestra convencional de 60 docentes en las diez escuela secundarias generales de la ciudad de Mérida, de las áreas de biología, civismo y orientación, y a través de un instrumento de lápiz y papel, se identifican los conocimientos de los docentes en cuanto al abuso de sustancias. Asimismo, se describen las actitudes en cuanto a la prevención del abuso de sustancias y las formas en que el docente aborda en sus clases este tema.

    Los resultados indican que los planes de estudio carecen de suficientes contenidos al respecto del abuso de substancias y que pese que cerca del 87% de los docentes reportaron manejar temas del abuso de sustancias en sus clases, con ayuda de recursos didácticos, estos docentes no cuentan con los conocimientos necesarios para abordar estos temas.

    Consecuente al estudio, se recomienda capacitar a los docentes en estos temas para lo que se propone un curso - taller ad- hoc.

    The present work of exploratory type has the purpose of determining the knowledge and attitudes of the teachers of secondary schools toward drug abuse and the ways in which their role as teachers would help to prevent this problem in their students. The contents referring to that topic in the curriculum of the secondary schools are listed and revised. In a conventional sample of 60 teachers in ten general secondary schools of the city of Merida, of the following areas: biology, good citizenship, and counselling, and through a written instrument, the knowledge of the teachers about drug abuse is identified. The attitudes towards the prevention of drug abuse and the ways the teachers approach the topic in their classrooms; are also described.

    The results indicate that the study plans lack enough contents in this respect and despite the fact that nearly 87% of the teachers reported that they cover topics on drug abuse in their classrooms, with the help of didactic resources, these teachers don't have the necessary knowledge to approach these topics. As a result of this study it is recommended to train the teachers in these topics suggesting a workshop especially designed for this purpose.
