Consideraciones docentes en el proceso enseñanza - aprendizaje de discentes adultos

    Lamentablemente, por lo general, la preparación de maestros para la educación de los adultos no siempre es tomada en cuenta o se le da muy poca importancia, pues se considera que cualquier docente está preparado para esta tarea. Por consiguiente, es necesario reflexionar un poco más en lo concerniente al tema de las personas encargadas directamente de este tipo de educación. Después de todo es el maestro quien debe hacer el esfuerzo por entender los factores individuales y de personalidad que caracteriza al adulto.

    Por lo general, se cree que un maestro acostumbrado a trabajar con niños o adolescentes puede hacerlo también con adultos por el simple hecho de ser maestro y de que el adulto, al asistir a un aula escolar, se convierte en un alumno más. En este trabajo se dan a conocer las características principales del discente adulto y la reacción esperada de los educadores a estos factores específicos. El educador se debe preocupar por incentivar adecuadamente a sus alumnos de acuerdo con sus características individuales y de grupo. Así mismo, debe valorar el esfuerzo del adulto y, para esto, debe conocer los obstáculos o dificultades con que puede tropezar, las sepa reconocer cuando se le presenten y responda a las mismas en forma acertada.

    Unfortunately, as a general rule, the training of teachers for adult education is not always taken into account, or it is given very little importance, because it is thought that any teacher is prepared for such task. Therefore it is necessary to ponder a little more on the topic of people in charge of this sort of education- After all it is the teacher who must make the effort to understand the individual and personality factors that characterize the adult.

    It is generally thought that the teacher used to teach children and adolescents can do the same with adults simply because he is a teacher and because an adult becomes a student the moment he enters a school room. In this paper we make known the characteristics of the adult learner and the behavior expected from educators in specific circumstances. The educator should motivate the learners in ways adequate to the their individual traits and those of the group. Furthermore, the educator must value the efforts of the adult learner, and in order to do so, he must be aware of the obstacles and difficulties he might have to face, learn to recognize them when they come and respond accordingly in the right way.
